if only i could live in lilacs and moss and daydreams / crystal-craving caves / and with toadstools under my eyes / but instead i'm at this gas station inserting my debit card before the / januarywind turns my hands into spacedust / since i misplaced my gloves
i don’t think i was ever meant for breathing or having fingernails
maybe in another life i was moonlight / or a secret / maybe two lives ago i recited wedding hymns / under dionysus / wine spilled at my feet / the last time i visited that new york museum on the e line / i spent ten seconds or two hours in front of a malevich square / envious of having edges
i don’t think i was ever meant for language or bones
light bends from my bedroom window through a prism / projecting angels like a film reel / arching their thousand eyes against my bookcase / my bedsheets / and the television screen / ancient as clay
i don’t think i was ever meant to drive to work on a tuesday morning
