a colloquy

“Why did you create me?”

“Because I wanted to write, and to write, you have to have someone to write about.”

“But why me?”

“You are a piece of me, a voice in my head that had to come out. You are the parts of me I wish I could be.”

“Then why do you keep putting me through so much trauma?”

“What would be interesting about it if I didn’t? A good character has to change and grow. Without going through things that affect you deeply, you wouldn’t do either of those.”

"You've killed people I love, tortured me mentally and physically, and ripped apart my very soul. I don't know how much more I can take."

"Then I know more about you than you do."

"What do you mean?"

"I created you. I know the strength and resilience of your heart even if you don't see it yourself. I wouldn't put you through enough to break you completely."

"Just break me enough to satisfy the reader?"

"Just break you enough to make you a character worth reading about."
