too pretty

Pam Yve Simon

I’m thumbing through sunrises for you.
Too pink, too pretty, too white, too red.

My cheeks revealed what was in my heart, too red.
Come on, we can’t believe in miracles right now.

Miracles right now melt faster than snowmen.
Remember we built one, I named it after you?

Remember what we built, too pretty, for us?
It was the ugliest birthday cake I’d seen.

My birthday cake was too sweet, too pink, like me.
We need to get you back home again.

Too white, we need to get you outside again.
You already know I race to meet the sunrise.

Sunsets, I already know how they find you.
I’m thumbing through sunrises for you.
